Fashion in Wonderland

Aparna at DoV WonderlandForget the Costume Institute Gala – some of the most compelling feats of costuming can be found in the Brooklyn underground scene. Period costume party and speakeasy revel Dances of Vice is one such event, where most if not all costumes are created by the attendee or one of their creatively inclined fellows.

Aparna was recently in attendance at DoV’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ retrospective fete at the stunning Galapagos Space in DUMBO, where her 14″ handcrafted chess queen crown, sceptre, and lace cape caught the eye of the NY Times, as well as TimeOutNY and Metromix. She was quoted in the Times about her costuming & fashion philosophy, and appeared in photos on TimeOutNY and Metromix. Read the NY Times article and see what she has to say about fashion.

Stay tuned to see how the designer will bring this philosophy to life in the launch of her eponymous label this fall!
